This is why some Kia owners are having a hard time getting insurance – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

Kia car owners face difficulty in obtaining insurance.

News Center 7’s Malik Patterson spoke with a woman who owns a Kia and an insurance broker about why this happened.

If you are an existing client of an insurance company, you don’t need to worry about this, but for new clients, be prepared.

“They came back to my house to check if my car was here so they could take it back,” said Mary Serpa, who owns the Kia.

Shortly after buying her car from her sister, the nightmare began.

“I’ve been trying to get full coverage for the last two or three months,” Serpa said.

Serpa, who is disabled, said it took her two years to save money for her car.

After purchasing the car and while searching for full coverage insurance, Serpa had to pay out of pocket for repairs.

Serpa claims insurance companies told her her car coverage would cost $700.

News Center 7 went to a local insurance agency to try to find out if Serpa was the only one who was denied full coverage.

“Well, we only have two companies that will do it, and everyone else is like no vehicle, not qualified, and will just be liable,” said Leronda Jackson, owner of LFL Insurance Agency. “But for full coverage, it averages six hundred to seven hundred, five hundred a month.”

News Center 7 asked Serpa what she wants to see changed.

“I would like to see Kia stick to this,” Serpa said.

The years for Kias and Hyundais with very high insurance rates are from 2009 to 2020. If you’re an existing customer, your rate won’t be as high.
