The Last of Us 2 Remastered Director Doesn’t Get a Re-release ‘Panic’ Surrounds Fans

The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be released soon on PS5, with owners of the original PS4 version able to access via a $10 upgrade path. Whether or not this entry is necessary has been a topic of heated debate among fan communities ever since we learned of its existence. Director Matthew Gallant says he doesn’t understand why there’s so much “panic” surrounding the undeniably controversial remake.

VGC asked Gallant why he thinks video game remasters lead to backlash in gaming communities, and this one in particular: “I don’t understand some of the panic about what The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered has to offer. It’s the best way to play The Last of Us Part 2 “

Gallant believes there is audience demand for the remaster and that the value proposition speaks for itself. Along with the amazing original game, which has been enhanced with graphical improvements, you get Lost Levels and developer commentary, a roguelike No Return mode, a Guitar Free Play mode, and DualSense integration.

And while some fans of the 2020 original may not see much benefit in the remaster, Gallant explains that more PS5 players are joining the ecosystem every day: “If you’re a new PlayStation owner and new to the franchise, we want to offer you the best “An experience with all the hardware features found on the original PS5 version of the game. I feel like there’s an audience for this that the idea of a PS5 version is exciting for. I’m also speaking for myself. I’m excited that we can bring this to the fans, and if it’s not for everyone, that’s okay.”
