Israeli alternative drama “A Body That Works” has been renewed for a second season.

“Body in Action” (titled “Gov Shalishi” in Hebrew) was the highest-rated drama in Israel of 2023. The series, starring Rotem Sela (“The Baker and the Beautiful”) and Lior Raz of “Fauda,” tells the story of an infertile couple who recruit a surrogate.

Season 2 picks up right after last season, where Eli (Sela) and Ido (Yehuda Levy) separated and co-parented their son, who was born via surrogate, Chin (Gal Malka). Raaz plays the love interest.

Sela and Malka together won the Best Actress Award in Mania at last year’s festival for their roles in the series.

All four leads return for the six-episode second season alongside the creative team of director Shai Capon (“writer”) and executive producers Shira Margalit and Elad Kuperman.

“Relationships and love will once again be at the heart of this new season, as Edo and Ellie grapple with the question of whether to bring another child into the world together,” the tagline reads.

“I am thrilled to be bringing this poignant drama about parental relationships back to the screens of Keshet 12 with the help of Kuma Studios,” said Karni Ziv, Head of Drama and Comedy at Keshet Broadcasting. “The original series by Shira, Dror and Shai captured the hearts of Israelis because it was steeped in love and infused with a human touch, and its smart, fast-paced pace kept them entertained until the end. It’s early days, but Season 2 is looking even better!”

Kelly Wright, Distribution Director at KI, added: “We are delighted to announce this re-order a year after we released A Body That Works to TV buyers in London last year. Charting one couple’s journey to parenthood, this wonderful series has captivated all of Israel I’m hyped for every new episode, and like everyone else, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Kuma Studios is producing the series for Keshet Radio, which has ordered a second season. The series is written by Shira Haddad (“The Wisdom of the Crowd”), Dror Machani (“The Lost File”) and Capon.

The Body That Works has been sold to 92 territories across Europe, Latin America, the United States, Canada and Australia. An English version is in development by Keshet UK

Other titles in Keshet’s drama slate include “The Best Worst Thing” (Spiro Films), “Trust No One” (Shenhar Productions) which was recently sold to Netflix, and the second season of “Line in the Sand” (Koda Communications). The Israeli production company is set to preview its spring slate this week at London screenings, including the thriller “Conflict” and the Orlando Bloom-narrated environmental documentary series “Earthbound.”
