‘SNL’: Ayo Edebiri appears to address her controversial comments about Jennifer Lopez: ‘It’s wrong to run your mouth on a podcast’

Saturday Night Live Host Ayo Edebiri may have wished she could take back some of the snide comments she made during a podcast about this week’s musical guest, Jennifer Lopez.

Fortunately (and perhaps embarrassingly) for her, SNL She gave her a chance to make amends with a satirical game show, Why did you say that?

It all started when clips resurfaced from a 2020 podcast episode Scam godswhere Edibiri described Lopez as a “scam.”

“Her entire career is one long scam,” Edebiri said in the clip. “She thinks she’s still good, even though she doesn’t sing most of these songs.”

Enter Kenan Thompson, SNL game show host Why did you say that?, Which asked the contestants to explain their comments on social media.

Edebiri’s character was asked, Did you write the word “die” in an Instagram video of cute Drew Barrymore partying in the rain? Another contestant had to explain the words Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez left on Instagram saying she was “interesting for Congress.”

In the end, an angry and nervous Edibiri explained why her character posted what she did, a stream that doubled as an explanation for her previous comments on J-lo.

“Okay, okay, we get it,” she said. “It’s wrong to leave bad reviews, post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the clout because you’re 24 and stupid.”

There was no word on anything similar said privately this week, and Edberry and Lopez did not participate in a sketch, although they did appear together in an SNL promo.
