Prince Harry ‘ready to take on royal role’ after King Charles diagnosed with cancer – report

Prince Harry has announced his willingness to return to a temporary role within the British royal family, British media reported.

After visiting with his father, King Charles, after his cancer diagnosis was announced nearly two weeks ago, sources shared with Times of London Harry has told friends he would be happy to take on a royal role while his father undergoes medical treatment.

The royal family’s public figures have been exhausted in recent weeks with the monarch withdrawing from his public duties and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, privately continuing to recover after abdominal surgery.

Family members who have come forward to cover some of the King’s duties include the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the King’s sister, Princess Anne. Prince William, who is separated from his brother Harry, also returned to public duties after his wife’s surgery.

Despite living in the United States, Harry remains fifth in line to the throne of the United Kingdom, and a Counselor of State. He met the king for 30 minutes in London last week, after flying from California to meet him.

Harry referred to their meeting during his interview in Canada for the Invictus Games this week. He said: I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go see him and spend any time with him – I’m grateful for that.

He speaks to reporter Will Reeves, son of the late Superman Star Christopher Reeves, Harry revealed the moment he learned of his father’s diagnosis. He said:

“I talked to him. I jumped on a plane and went to see him as soon as I could.”
