Prime Video UK and Ireland explore ‘The Murder of Sandra Rivette’


Exclusive: Prime Video UK and Ireland returns to the British true crime scene for its latest original.

Indie Woodcut Media is currently in production on a feature-length documentary The murder of Sandra Rivettwhich distributor Abacus Media Right (AMR) will be present for buyers in the upcoming MIPTV market after obtaining global sales.

The 90-minute film returns to 1974, when an aristocratic family is at war in London with Lord and Lady Lucan in dispute over custody of their children. When the newly appointed governess, Sandra Rivette, manages to bring some peace into the household and find a kindred spirit in her employer, Veronica (Countess of Lucan), she has no idea that she will soon become the victim of a crime that has fascinated generations. 50 years.

The doc will explore the misogyny rooted in the social history of the time and The story is told from two women who were opposites in class, but whose lives ran parallel – facing the challenges of mental health, marriage and motherhood before their paths crossed for a brief period of happiness. The doc will present various theories about what really happened on the night Sandra was murdered, including a first-hand account of life in the Lucan home from the family’s former nanny.

The executive producers are Nick Mavroidakis and Kate Bell, the producer is Madeleine Chiari and Matt Blythe serves as editor. The documentary is directed by Jenny Williams.

“This is one of the most famous murder mysteries of the 20th century. Up until this point the focus of the story has been on Lord Lucan,” said Mavroidakis. “In this feature-length documentary, our aim is to bring back the narrative to the forgotten story of the victim – Sandra herself. This year marks 50 years since the tragic loss of this young woman and we want to pay tribute to that.

The true crime space is familiar territory for Prime Video UK, which earlier this year pre-purchased several AMR docs of this nature, including Woodcut double Murder in a cup of tea And Kill on first strike.

Prime Video has tapped Amcomri Entertainment-owned AMR for true crime docs several times in recent years, including originals relating to the murder of Meredith Kercher and killers Ian Brady and Patrick MacKay.
