Netflix makes its Broadway production debut with Peter Morgan’s “Patriots.”


Netflix is ​​about to begin its first Broadway production, joining the cast of Peter Morgan’s upcoming play Patriots.

The play is from the creator of the Netflix signature series the crown It arrives on Broadway on April 1 for a 12-week run after a record-breaking run at London’s Almeida Theater and a sold-out 12-week West End run at the Noël Coward Theatre. Opening night at the Ethel Barrymore Theater on Broadway is April 22.

Set in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union, the play chronicles the rise of oligarchs such as billionaire Boris Berezovsky (Michael Stuhlbarg) and little-known St. Petersburg deputy mayor Vladimir Putin (Will Kane). When an eventual successor to President Boris Yeltsin is needed, Berezovsky turns to Putin, whose ruthless rise threatens Berezovsky’s reign and sets off a showdown between the two fatally flawed strongmen.

Netflix’s involvement was announced in a press release today about casting the full cast for the big ensemble. In addition to Netflix, producers include Sonia Friedman Productions, Nederlander Presentations, Richard Winkler, Stephanie P. McClelland, Ted Snowdon, Jamie deRoy/Ken Greiner, and Richard Batchelder.

Sonia Friedman Productions and Netflix recently teamed up as producers of the London stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

In addition to the previously announced Stuhlbarg, Kane, and Luke Thelon, as oligarch and politician Roman Abramovich, the 18-member Broadway cast will include Stella Baker, Ronald Gutman, Alex Hurt, Rosie Benton, Jeff Bell, Peter Bradbury, and Camila Cano.
