Netflix has drawn the curtain on Michelle Yeoh’s crime drama “The Brothers Sun” after one season.

The Taiwanese organized crime thriller set in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley premiered on January 4 on the global Netflix platform. The series is created and executive produced by Brad Falchuk and Brian Wu.

In addition to Oscar-winner Yeoh, “Brothers Sun” also stars Justin Chen, Sam Sung Lee, Heidi Kwan, and Jun Lee. News of the cancellation was first reported by Deadline.

The series had eight episodes. Chen played a Taiwanese gangster who heads to the Los Angeles area to protect his estranged mother after his father is assassinated in Taipei. Yeoh, who won the Best Actress Oscar last year for Everything Everywhere at Once, received strong reviews for her work in the series. diverse Television critic Aramide Tinubu described Yeoh as a “thug and a leader” and declared the series a “thrilling, riveting drama about family obligations, buried skeletons and bonds that can never be broken.” Tinubu also noted: “Although it gives Yeoh a much-deserved exposure, the series also introduces Chien and Li as two major talents who will undoubtedly continue to grace our screens.”

Other executive producers include Mikal Bondsen and Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the first episode of the series. Additional cast members include Alice Heoqin, Jun Xue Chang, Jenny Yang, and Madison Hu.
