LONDON – Kate, Princess of Wales, has undergone planned abdominal surgery and will remain in hospital for up to two weeks, Kensington Palace announced on Wednesday.

The wife of the future King of Britain, Prince William, will take an extended break from her usually busy schedule of public appearances and private engagements.

The palace, which is the royal couple’s home and office, said: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to a London clinic yesterday for a planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and she is expected to remain in hospital.” “Hospital for ten to fourteen days, before she returns home to continue her recovery.”

The statement did not explain the reasons for the action. “Based on current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to her public duties until after Easter,” the statement read.
