Judge issues gag order on Donald Trump restricting comments about New York criminal case

The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s upcoming criminal trial in New York has imposed a gag order on what the former president can say about potential witnesses, lawyers and court staff in the case, as well as potential jurors.

Judge Juan Merchan wrote that he was “not persuaded” by Trump’s lawyers’ arguments against the gag order.

With the trial pending, “it is undoubtedly the case that the risk of imminent harm is now paramount,” Merchan wrote.

Merchan set Monday, April 15, as the date for the start of the trial in which Trump faces charges related to paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels.
