George Gilbey dies: Former ‘Gogglebox’ star was 40 years old


George Gilby, former Cockley Fund star and Celebrity Big Brother A rider died after falling while working. He was 40 years old.

Essex Police said they were called to a road near Southend-on-Sea yesterday after a report of a man working at height falling, according to the BBC and Channel 4. Gilby’s father Peter McGarry, who joined him on the show, died in 2021 at the age of 71.

Gilbey was an early series regular on Channel 4, appearing alongside his father and mother Linda Gilbey for five years. The trio were warm-hearted and much-loved contributors to Lambert’s studio show, where everyday families across the country vent their feelings about the week’s television, often with hilarious consequences. The show remains one of Channel 4’s most watched series six years after Gilbey’s exit.

There were a number of tributes overnight, including from EastEnders Actress Daniella Westbrook, who said: “Good night, my dear friend George. I’m absolutely disappointed,” she posted on Instagram.
