Filmsharks closes deals at EFM for Spanish horror pic ‘The Boogeyman: The Origin Of The Myth’ and a 4K remaster of Argentine cult classic ‘Nine Queens’


Exclusive: Buenos Aires-based Filmsharks has sold a series of its EFM titles, including Spanish horror pictures The Boogeyman: Origin of the Myth (El Hombre del Saco) and a new 4K remastered version of the popular Argentinian thriller Nine Queens, in several international territories.

The Bogeyman: The Origin of the Myth Sold to RUSIA/CIS (Nashe Kino) for theatre, Cambodia and Laos (Westec), and German-speaking Europe (Busch Medien). Previous pic deals include Mantícora, which acquired all rights to Latin America, the US and Canada. Amazon Prime Video acquired the Spanish SVOD rights, and Antena 3 acquired the free TVV rights.

The company also sold the Spanish-Argentine supernatural horror drama, Turbulent waters, trembling lights From director Ángeles Hernández, starring Hugo Silva, to Spain (Alpha) for the play and cinematography (Russia/CIS). Finally, Filmsharks has closed a deal for a theatrical release in France via Eurozoom for a 4K restoration of the iconic thriller classic. Nine queens (2000), starring Ricardo Darin and Gaston Pauls. Disney’s Star distribution, formerly known as Buena Vista Int’l, will be re-released Nine queens In cinemas across Latin America on February 22. Sony Pictures Classics has North American rights.

“We’re finding homes for high-profile concepts that distributors can market theatrically as refreshing concepts,” said Filmsharks’ Guido Rudd.

Filmsharks was also at EFM with People’s Cup, a documentary about Argentina’s victory in the 2022 World Cup, led by Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi. The film was produced by Pablo Bossi, famous for titles such as Nine queens And Son of the bride. The film has already opened in Argentina through Disney’s Star distribution and has crossed the $1.2 million ticket mark, currently making it the number one local-language title this year in Argentine cinemas.
