The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding producers to apply for discounts on crop insurance premiums through the end of January.

There is $800,000 in coverage available, or 160,000 acres, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those eligible will receive a $5 per acre discount on summer 2024 crop insurance premiums for acres planted to cover crops in 2023 and then planted to an insurable crop in 2024.

There is no limit to the acres an applicant can apply, although producers who received state or federal cost sharing for plant cover crops in 2023 are not eligible this year.
