Chelsea Handler took a subtle jab at her ex-boyfriend Joe Coy on Sunday at the Critics’ Choice Awards after he received unflattering criticism for his monologue at the Golden Globes.

“Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese isn’t here tonight, but that’s not going to stop me from letting everyone in this room know that I’m going to throw him around like a little Italian meatball,” Handler, 48, joked in her speech.

“Thank you for laughing about that. It was written in my book,” she added.

The Post has contacted representatives for Koy, 52, for comment.

Handler’s joke comes one week after Coy bombed for his Golden Globes monologue, even throwing the show’s writers under the bus.

“I wrote some (jokes) and he wrote some. Yes, I got the gig 10 days ago! Want the perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You’re kidding me right?” he said.

He added: “Slow down, I wrote some of these and they are the ones you are laughing at.”

Coy clarified his comments Thursday in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, admitting that calling out the book in a time of need was a “rookie move.”

Handler’s monologue elicited a lot of laughter, while Coy’s monologue was met with groans and no emotions from the front-row audience, especially the cast and crew of “Barbie.”

“Oppenheimer is based on a 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project, and Barbie is based on a plastic doll with big breasts,” he said.

And Coy apparently teased Taylor Swift when he said: “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”

For their part, Handler and Cowie had known each other for nearly 20 years before they started dating in the summer of 2021.

Koy frequently appeared as a guest on Handler’s E! Late night show “Chelsea Lately” which ran from 2007 to 2014.

“One day, I just looked at him and thought, ‘Oh, that’s my boyfriend!'” Handler told Jimmy Fallon in October 2021. Have sex with him. …Fun time!”

“I love it, man,” Coy told “Good Morning Washington” around the same time. “There’s nothing better than falling in love with someone you’ve been friends with for a long time. She supports me, and I’ve always had her back.”

“It feels good to finally find love, and it’s with someone I’ve loved for a long time,” he added.

Unfortunately, Handler will do just that They announced their split in July 2022, writing in a statement to fans: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we have both decided that it is best for us to take a break from our relationship now.”

“I know many of you were invested in our love, and I wanted to express how much it meant to both of us. How much it still means. And how much I now believe in love for each of us,” she added.

She continued about Koi: “It exploded my creativity, my desire to work hard again, to be on the road again, and it reminded me of who I was and who I’ve always been, and my feet have never been planted more firmly on the ground. This is not an end but another beginning.” It is such a comfort to know that I still love this man and love him the way the sun loves the moon and the moon loves the sun.

In August, Coy told Entertainment Tonight that the pair were “great friends and always will be,” but on Brooke Shields’ “Now What?” In a podcast in December, Handler revealed that they hadn’t spoken in a while.

“There has to be some accountability…from him for what happened because it was just ridiculous, and I don’t think we can have a friendship until there’s some accountability and some responsibility,” she said.

“We had a really great friendship, and I would love to have that again, but without a few steps in the right direction, I don’t see it happening,” Handler admitted.

In July 2023, Coy gave Page Six an update on the couple’s whereabouts one year after their split.

“She’s a lovely person, and you know, we’re still friends,” he said. “It was a beautiful time and she’s doing beautiful things now. She’s crushing it now, so I have nothing but the best love for her.”
