Brian Wilson suffers from dementia, and his family is seeking guardianship after his wife’s death

Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson suffers from a “major neurocognitive disorder” and should be placed in conservatorship in light of the death of his wife and primary caregiver Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, the rock icon’s family and management team say.

A petition for guardianship was filed by Wilson’s management team on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Wilson’s family confirmed the move in posts on Wilson’s social media accounts, including Instagram, last night.

In medical papers submitted with the petition, 81-year-old Wilson is said to be taking medication to treat dementia.

“Following the death of Brian’s beloved wife, Melinda, and after careful consideration and consultation between Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos, and Brian’s doctors (and in keeping with the family processes established by Brian and Melinda), we confirm that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard will serve,” the statement read. and Jean Sievers as Brian’s co-conservators of the person.”

“This decision was made to ensure that there would be no drastic changes to the family and Brian and the children who live in the home will be taken care of and will remain in the home as they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the home. Who have been around for many years helping to care for the family.

“Brian will be able to enjoy all his family and friends and continue working on current projects as well as participating in any activities he chooses.”

LeeAnn Hard is Wilson’s manager, and Jan Sievers is his publicist. Gloria Ramos is said to be Wilson’s housekeeper and longtime caretaker.

The petition requests that Hard and Sievers be appointed as Wilson’s conservators to oversee personal and medical decisions. Wilson’s estate was not included in the petition because the assets had already been placed in a trust, with Director Hard as trustee.

When Ledbetter Wilson died last month, Wilson wrote on social media: “My heart is broken. My five children and I are in tears. We are lost. Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior. It gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career.
