The actor was found unresponsive by emergency personnel, who performed CPR and defibrillation in an attempt to save Jill, according to a spokesperson. However, their efforts were unsuccessful and Jill was placed on life support for several days before his death was pronounced on January 16.
“The family has no reason to doubt that the cause of his death was anything other than heart failure,” a family representative said in a statement to E! News. “David will be remembered for his love of acting, his absolute passion and his dedication to his friends and family. He had a unique quality that made everyone feel special in his presence.”
Jill’s mother, Mary, added in a separate statement: “We have been so touched by the outpouring of love from David’s dedicated fans and teammates. We are grateful for all the support we have received during this extremely difficult time.”
