BBC Studios has appointed Nicola Bean to take on the newly created role of chief operating officer of factual productions.

Pinn’s promotion was revealed by de facto BBC Studios chief executive Kate Ward.

Pinn moves from her previous role as production manager at Factual. She will continue to lead production and business management across the BBC Studios factual portfolio as well as other areas including governance, strategic partnerships, financial and creative objectives.

Ward also revealed the appointment of Katie Benbow as Director of Strategy, a role that will see her work closely with BBC Studios partners in global media and broadcast as well as focusing on content and investment strategy. Benbow will also manage the independent partnerships team led by Tom Young.

Pinn and Benbow assume their new positions effective immediately.

These appointments have been made to strengthen the large production team and ensure that the physical arm of BBC Studios will continue to deliver on creative ambition and build stronger links with international markets.

“I could not be happier that Nicola has agreed to take on this additional responsibility,” Ward said. “Her extensive experience and scope of influence are matched by her deep passion for our production, our people and our values.” “I have no doubt that in her expanded role she will continue to ensure our physical portfolio continues to thrive.”

Ward added: “Katie’s deep knowledge of the production market, experience across production, distribution and branded services, and her love of the realistic genre, make her the ideal strategic leader for us as we look forward to delivering on our ambitious plans for the future.”

BBC Studios is the commercial arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Its reality productions include shows ranging from “Planet Earth III” to “Mammals.” She also owns Al-Hafat TV production company.
