AXIS Capital appoints Mike Koman as head of US construction


AXIS Capital Holdings Limited, a global specialist underwriter and reinsurance solutions provider, has appointed Mike Kooyman to the newly created position of Head of Construction for the US market, reporting to Steve Cross, Global Head of Construction and Michael McKenna, Head of North America across the structure. Cueman will be a key member of AXIS’s global markets building team and will be based in New York. His responsibilities will include leading the company’s entry into the US domestic construction market.

Additionally, he will be responsible for establishing a strong business presence for the launch of AXIS and profitable growth in the US construction physical damage (construction risk) market segment.

Commenting on the appointment, Cross said: “In specialist and often complex risk areas such as construction, it is essential to have underwriting experience, leadership and deep market knowledge to successfully expand into new markets.

“Mike brings knowledge, skills and drive that will help us establish our presence in the United States, grow our existing global construction portfolio, and elevate the specialized solutions we provide to clients globally.”

Cueman is a market veteran with more than two decades of underwriting and leadership experience. Prior to that, he worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance as Vice President.

Prior to that, he held senior underwriting and management positions at Zurich North America within the Construction, Engineering and Inland Marine divisions.
