After making its debut at last year’s Cannes Film Festival with Jean-Luc Godard’s latest work and Pedro Almodovar’s The Strange Way of Life, Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent Productions has joined Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez as co-producer.

This exciting musical joins Saint Laurent Productions’ slate of prestigious projects, including Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino’s “Parthenope,” David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds,” and upcoming films by Abel Ferrara, Wong Kar-wai, Jim Jarmusch, and Gaspard Noy.

“Emilia Perez” is a musical thriller featuring an international cast led by Carla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldana (“Avatar”), Selena Gomez (“Only Murders in the Building”), Edgar Ramírez (“Carlos”) and Adriana Paz. The film was co-produced by French production company Why Not Productions and Page 114, along with Pathé and France 2 Cinema. Pathé has acquired French distribution rights and will release the film in French theatres.

The film, which Audiard describes as “an opera libretto in four acts,” stars Gascón, an up-and-coming Argentine transgender actor, as a feared Mexican cartel leader who undergoes a sex change to escape the law and become the woman he has always wanted. He is.

The Palme d’Or-winning director has assembled a stellar creative team, including composer Clément Ducaulle, singer-songwriter and composer Camille, and choreographer Damien Gallet. Vaccarell created the costumes for the films.

Saint Laurent Productions is the first film production company launched by a fashion house. When unveiling the company last year, Vaccarello said it would give him “the opportunity to expand my vision for Saint Laurent through a more permanent medium of clothing.”

“You can still watch a film 10 or 30 years later if it’s good. In some ways, making a film can be more impactful than a seasonal collection. For me, this is a natural extension,” said the Belgian, who became artistic director of Saint Laurent in 2016. “For another field of creativity that is perhaps more general and popular.”
