A celebration of Asian cinema
Veteran Chinese director Zhang Yimou He will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy (April 24 – May 2). The collection will include three films by Zhang: his 2023 political thriller “In the Spotlight” in the competition section; Plus “To Live” and “Raise the Red Lantern” in the Restored Classics section.
The festival’s total lineup includes 74 films – 47 in competition and 28 out of competition) from 11 countries. The action will kick off with a double feature of the Chinese hit film “YOLO” and the Korean action comedy “Citizen of a Kind.”
Other highlights include “13 bombs” produced by Indonesia Anja Doymas Sasongko; “Goldfinger” from Hong Kong Felix Chung; Investigative journalism drama “In Broad Daylight” is a Hong Kong production Lawrence Kahn; Ning Hao “The Emperor’s Movie”; The ten-strong Japanese selection includes director Kiichi Yoshiyuki’s “(Ab)normal Desire,” Kaneko Shusuke’s crime thriller “Gold Boy,” and Yoshida Keisuke’s kidnapping drama “Missing.”
The festival’s eleven headliners from South Korea include: political thriller and smash hit “12.12: today”; Two-part fantasy “Alienoid” from 2022 and 2024; “Exhuma,” the exorcism drama that was the year’s biggest box office draw, and the action comedy “The Roundup: Punishment” with the Korean-American star. New Zealand
Whanau Marama: New Zealand International Film Festival, which already travels across the country, will add shows in six additional regions. A selection of the festival’s menu will be on display Hamilton, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Masterton And Tauranga In August and September. This is in addition to previously announced seasons, starting in July, in Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch.
