Locally produced horror drama “Exhuma” retained the top spot at the South Korean box office for the fifth consecutive week.

Its complete market dominance kept “Exhuma” comfortably ahead of the remaining “Dune 2” and a couple of lower-powered remakes and allowed its total ongoing sales to exceed 10 million in ticket sales. This is the traditional measure of great success in Korea, a country with a population of about 50 million.

Over its recent weekend, “Exhuma” sold 618,000 tickets for a total revenue of $4.56 million and a market share of 56%, according to data from Kobis, the database run by the Korea Film Council (Kofic).

The latest raise gives the film a total of $73.4 million earned from 10.2 million admissions. While this milestone was achieved with five films in 2019, it has only been surpassed four times since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. And while “Exhuma” still has a long way to go to catch up to “12.12: The Day” from last year and “The Roundup” from 2022, it has a realistic chance of unseating “The Roundup: No Way Out,” which clawed its way into second place. . $77.8 million in 2023.

During the last weekend, “Dune 2” took second place with $1.1 million from Friday to Sunday, bringing its total revenue to $15.3 million. This is the third highest total this year.

The Japanese animated film “Spy x Family Code: White” ranked third, achieving revenues on Friday and Sunday of $794,000 and opening revenues for five days of $1.27 million.

The movie “Wonka” earned $239,000 in fourth place, bringing its total revenues to $25.9 million since its release at the end of January.

The three-day run of “Lee Seung Yoon Concert Docking: Liftoff” was good enough for a No. 5 slot (No. 7 on the Korean charts which show rankings by ticket sales, not revenue). He earned $160,000 from 9,500 acceptances.

“Bad Things” earned $106,000 in sixth place over the weekend. After nearly three weeks of release, the film has collected $1.01 million.

The Korean animated film “Bread Barbershop: Celeb in Bakery Town” ranked seventh in its fourth weekend of release, earning $92,000, for a total of $1.18 million. (It ranked fifth in terms of ticket sales, with 15,000 tickets).

In eighth place, “Past Lives” earned $70,000 for a total of $738,000 over three weekends. Ninth place went to the newly released movie “Marlowe,” starring Liam Neeson, with $51,000 between Friday and Sunday and $73,100 during its five opening days.

Animated import “Katak the Brave Beluga” earned $48,100 for a weekend total of $118,000.
