Ryan Coogler’s Prince Jukebox musical feature is set at Universal


Deadline has confirmed that Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media has been cast on an untitled Prince music-inspired film at Universal Pictures.

Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Seif Ohanian are producing, and Rebecca Chu will executive produce through Proximity Media. Atom Factory’s Troy Carter and Universal Music Publishing Group Chairman and CEO Jody Gerson will also produce.

Brian Edward Hill (Titans TV series) wrote an earlier draft of the film.

Proximity Media is a multimedia company founded by the Cooglers and Ohanian, and co-founded by 2x Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Peter Nicks, whose mission is to create event-driven feature films, television, soundtracks and podcasts. Bringing audiences closer together through stories that include topics that are often overlooked. Film projects include two-time Academy Award winner Proximity Judas and the Black Messiah And Space crowding: a new legacy.

Proximity is preparing to produce Ryan Coogler’s long-awaited, untitled film at Warner Bros. The film stars Michael B. Jordan and is scheduled to be released via IMAX in March 2025. The company produced the documentary Home room with Hulu, directed by Proximity partner Peter Nicks as Nicks’ final chapter Auckland Trilogy (next waiting room And Power).

Last year, they co-produced the film Proximity Stephen Curry: Underrateda documentary about NBA star Steph Curry, with Apple Original Films, A24 and Unanimous Media, as well as National anthema documentary showcasing Chris Powers and Dahe’s quest to reimagine America’s national anthem, with Onyx Collective as part of the company’s overall deal with Disney Television.

Proximity Creed IIICo-produced by MGM Studios, it was released last March and has grossed more than $276 million worldwide.
