Aaron Taylor-Johnson graces the latest cover of Rolling Stone UK ahead of what will be a busy rest of the year for the 33-year-old actor. He’s got a supporting role in “The Fall Guy” (in theaters May 3 from Warner Bros.), is the lead in the superhero film “Kraven the Hunter” (in theaters Aug. 30 from Sony) and is part of a “Nosferatu” by Robert Eggers. The Band (in theaters December 25 from Focus Features). “Kraven” offers Taylor-Johnson the chance to launch a new superhero series after her one-off appearance as Pietro Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
“I think there’s something unique about this character, something grounded,” Taylor-Johnson told the publication about dealing with Kraven. “We’re all tired of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they make things that dull the desire to go to the movies. I wouldn’t have signed it if I felt there was nothing to bring to life with this character.
“Taking on a Sony/Marvel movie is a whole different challenge,” he added later in the interview. “There’s the story, the character, the role; that’s one thing. But then you also get into a world where you’re dealing with a studio and a franchise — or potential franchises, although we’re not getting ahead of ourselves. So, they’re rolling the dice on me, in a sense, which is It’s nice. But you have to please the studio and please the audience and do what honors you as an actor. I find all of this very challenging.
Another potential franchise on the horizon for Taylor-Johnson is James Bond. He has long been considered the favorite to take over the role from Daniel Craig, with The Sun reporting on March 18 that he had officially been offered the role and would soon sign a contract. Sources close to Taylor-Johnson downplayed the importance of the report and said that he had not been chosen to play Bond, but technically anything is possible in the future.
“I can only really talk about the things I have to show and say,” Taylor-Johnson said when UK magazine Rolling Stone asked about Bond. “I don’t feel like I need to chart a future for myself. I feel like: Whatever it takes for me, I can do better.”
