NAACP Image Awards: ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’, Issa Rae, Leslie Jones, DC Young Fly among Night 2 winners

The winners in the mostly television categories were announced on Tuesday during the virtual awards ceremony as part of a week-long spread of winners across the various events. It all comes ahead of the main 55th NAACP Image Awards ceremony on Saturday, hosted by Queen Latifah and broadcast live on BET and CBS.

Other winners today include VH1 Wild n Out, named an outstanding reality program, reality competition, or game show; Leslie Jones, for Outstanding Performance in a Miniseries Daily display after cutting; and Kayla Pratt for her voice work on Disney+ The Proud Family: Louder and prouder.

On Monday, the Image Awards were handed out in the music and book categories, with winners including Usher, HER, Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Kirk Franklin, Tems and the soundtrack to Violet. Victoria Monet and Chris Brown were double winners.

Usher is also in the running for Entertainer of the Year in a category that also includes Keke Palmer, Best Actor Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino and Halle Bailey. The weekend ceremony will also see poet Amanda Gorman receive the group’s President’s Award, and the new release will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.

Also honored this week are R&B singer-songwriter Frankie Beverly, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, and creative director and fashion designer John Ambrose, who will receive a Vanguard Award. Both honors will be given during Friday’s non-televised NAACP Image Awards fashion show.
