David Dastmalchian Joins Alexander Skarsgard in Apple’s Sci-Fi Series ‘Murderbot’


Exclusive: David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) has been tapped to star opposite Alexander Skarsgård in the new sci-fi series on Apple TV+ Robot killer Oscar nominees Chris and Paul Weitz (About a boy, Mozart in the Jungle).

Based on the best-selling book series by Martha Wells Murderbot DiaryThe 10-episode series revolves around a self-hacking security robot who is terrified of human emotions but drawn to his vulnerable “agents.” Murderbot must hide his free will and complete a dangerous mission when all he really wants is to be left alone to watch future TV series and find out his place in the universe.

Dastmalchian plays Gurathin, a human whose talents as a hacker are enhanced by an interface implanted inside him.

Hailing from Paramount Television Studios, The Weitz Brothers are set to present, write, direct and produce under their Depth of Field banner. Additional EPs include Andrew Miano for Depth of Field, David S. Goyer and Keith Levine for Phantom Four, and Skarsgård. Martha Wells serves as consulting producer. Casting was supervised by Sharon Bialy and Russell Scott on behalf of Bialy/Thomas & Associates and John Buchan and Jason Knight on behalf of Buchan Knight Casting.

Part of Christopher Nolan’s SAG Award-winning ensemble Oppenheimerwho leads this year’s Oscar nominations with 13, Dastmalchian will next be seen leading the SXSW horror hit Late night with the devilwhich hits theaters via IFC Films on March 22 and makes its way to Shudder on April 19.

Other upcoming projects by Dastmalchian include writer-director Mike Flanagan’s latest Stephen King film, Chuck’s lifeAnd Bryan Fuller’s movie Dust bunny. The actor is repped by Atlas Artists and attorney Duncan Hedges at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
