Joe Biden arrives in Los Angeles on campaign visit; POTUS Handily Wins South Carolina Primary – Update

to update: President Joe Biden arrived in Los Angeles this afternoon for a campaign tour.

His first stop was a campaign rally in Bel Air, according to the White House report. A source said the meeting was at the home of Freddie Deman, a producer and music manager who was one of the founders of Maverick Records.

Meanwhile, Biden issued a statement after his easy victory in the Democratic primary in South Carolina.

“In 2020, it was South Carolina voters who proved the critics wrong, breathed new life into our campaign, and put us on the path to winning the presidency,” Biden said.

“Now in 2024, the people of South Carolina have spoken again and I have no doubt that you have put us on the path to winning the presidency again — and making Donald Trump a loser — again.”

previously: President Joe Biden was expected to easily win the South Carolina Democratic primary tonight.

NewsNation declared his victory shortly after polls closed at 7 p.m. ET. Although Biden’s victory was almost certain, the state holds symbolic value for Biden, as his victory there in 2020 marked a turning point in his campaign for the nomination.

This cycle, Biden faces nominal opposition from Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) and Marianne Williamson. But Phillips in particular sought to make enough of a showing to send a message about concerns about Biden seeking another term, given his age. However, Phillips lost handily to Biden in New Hampshire last week, where the president’s supporters launched a write-in campaign because his name was not on the ballot.

The President and First Lady Jill Biden arrived in Los Angeles this afternoon for a brief visit that will include a POTUS campaign meeting with Black leaders in the entertainment industry. He will travel to Las Vegas on Sunday to attend a campaign event, ahead of that state’s primary elections on Tuesday.
