Despite some rough changes to Overwatch 2’s newest heroes, Mauga’s main characters seem to be having a lot more fun playing as him. Here’s what they had to say.

Mauga debuted as a new face at the start of Season 8 of Overwatch 2. Four years since he first appeared in the What You Left Behind short, players can finally learn more about Baptiste’s former ally.

The muscular Samoan hero wields two miniguns capable of dealing damage and setting fire to his path. Meanwhile, the rest of his kit enables him to engage in team combat, heal himself, and trap enemies in cage combat.

What looked like a good deck on paper, turned out to be a huge problem, as Mauga reportedly dominates the ranked ladder and has the second highest win rate according to Overbuff, despite receiving numerous nerfs and changes.

It had reached a point where players were forced to switch their companies to powerful counterattacks in order to increase their chances of winning against Moga. The Mauga vs. Mauga fight also became quite the norm, and it didn’t take long for players to criticize him as a boring champion to play against.

Then, Blizzard tweaked his health, abilities, and cooldowns in the latest patch, giving him the harsh nerf some players had been asking for. Surprisingly, the main population of Mauja seems to welcome these changes rather than be disturbed by them.

One player shared his thoughts in a Reddit thread, claiming that it’s “more fun now that it’s not overridden.” According to the OP, playing as Mauga is more fun because it now requires him to “try harder to win”.

“Charge still seems a bit more complicated, but I’m enjoying Mauga as much as I did during his trial,” the OP added. So far, this idea has been well received by other Mauga players.

In agreement with OP, one response said: “Yes, I don’t enjoy overpowered champions, and everyone I played with didn’t help them either, because a Mauga mirror every now and then is fine, but every match was one of the most boring experiences for me in Overwatch”.

“Yes, I feel like I should actually think about when to charge and use Cardiac instead of just jumping on top of an enemy tank the first chance I get and unloading on the entire team fight,” another commented.

Overall, the recent Mauga balance changes seem to be going in the right direction, at least according to Mauga players.
