Google DeepMind scientists are in talks to leave and form an AI startup


A pair of scientists at Google DeepMind, Alphabet company Its artificial intelligence division is talking to investors about establishing an artificial intelligence startup in Paris, according to people familiar with the talks.

The team has been in discussions with potential investors about a funding round that could exceed €200 million ($220 million) — a significant sum, even for the buzzing field of artificial intelligence, the people said. Laurent Siver, who worked as a scientist at DeepMind, is in talks to found the company, now known as Holistic, with fellow DeepMind scientist Karl Toels, said the people, who asked to remain anonymous while discussing private information. They said the project may focus on building a new model of artificial intelligence.
