The advertising watchdog pulls a ‘sensational’ pet insurance ad featuring home invasion sounds

Bruce Whitfield and Expendables Ninja Wendy Noller discuss the ARB ruling.

Pet insurance company Dotsure has been ordered to pull its TV ad showing a family talking about how their dog was shot during an armed robbery of their home while trying to protect one of their two children.

The ad features a graphic soundtrack and harrowing details of the pet’s injuries.

The Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) found that the ad was inappropriate for children and played on the fears of adults.

Two consumers filed complaints, one of whom (Mr. D. Ogg) accuses the pet insurance company of using intimidation tactics to punish its product.

He said it exploited South Africans’ worst fears about home invasions, and that it could make children fearful of shooting their dogs in a robbery.
