Access Health CT helps people sign up for health insurance before Jan. 15 deadline – NBC Connecticut

For most people, the last day to sign up for health and dental insurance through the state’s health insurance marketplace is Monday, January 15.

That’s why Access Health CT organizes several enrollment fairs across the state. The most recent was at the Hector Figueroa Job Center in Hartford on Sunday.

Enrollment specialists were there to help people find the right health plan. Not only that, Hartford HealthCare was also offering free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.

Additionally, health experts were there with resources and education centered around food and nutrition.

“I think this is a great thing for the community and for people who really need it,” said a West Hartford woman, who did not want to give her name.

Karen Perez, Community Outreach Manager at Access Health CT, says she sees many people waiting until the day before or last day to sign up.

“They have a lot going on during the holidays, and the last thing on their mind is insurance,” Perez said.

But Perez says they still have time to register, even if they don’t make it to the registration fair on Sunday. People can go online or call the call center from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Support is also available for undocumented families.

“One of the reasons we were here is because we were fighting to expand the Huskies program,” Mary Elizabeth Smith said.

Smith works for Make the Road CT, which aims to improve the health of immigrants from Connecticut. Enrollment in Husky and Covered Connecticut, a no-cost coverage option for those who qualify, is open year-round.

“When you get to know people, you realize there’s no difference. Everyone needs to be able to go to the doctor. Everyone needs access to mental health. Everyone needs access to all these different things, just to keep our bodies safe,” Smith said. “.

Those who register by the January 15 deadline will receive coverage starting February 1.
