Next weekend, January 12-14, is the hero shooter Embattled Monitoring 2 It will replace the popular Quick Play mode with Quick Play: Hacked, a super fast version of the main game inspired by the hacker character Sombra. Arcade and Competitive mode will not be affected by this change.

Here’s what Quicked Play: Hacked will require:

  • Respawn times are now 75 percent of their original time
  • Payloads in Escort and Hybrid maps will move 60 percent faster
  • Point of aim control in hybrid mode is 40 percent faster than normal
  • Point of aim control is 40 percent faster than normal, and shooting progress is 80 percent faster
  • Flashpoint aim point control is 20 percent faster than usual, and capture progress recording is 40 percent faster
  • When playing a Companion, Hybrid, or Push map, the initial match time is reduced to 70 percent of the original time, and any time extensions are also reduced to 70 percent of the total added time
  • These changes only apply to all players playing in Role Queue and Open Queue Quick Play modes for the duration of the event and will return to normal after January 14. Competitive and Arcade modes are not affected by these changes

Blizzard’s choice to replace Quick Play entirely has been met with some intense fan backlash, as it’s the go-to mode for many Monitoring 2 players. Quick Play is where they go to try out new strategies, train new heroes, and hone their skills without the pressures of competitive mode. I personally never play it, because I’m a masochist and like to try (and fail) to improve my rank every time I play the game. But removing Quick Play entirely means robbing a key part of your player base of the only way they play the game. It appears that Blizzard expected some backlash, as the blog post asks and answers a question about Quick Play: Hacked not being included in Arcade mode.

Arcade is designed for game modes that typically only play one specific map type (such as Assault) or completely different ways of playing Overwatch. Quick Play: The hacked changes impact the core gameplay of our main mode, while still aiming to deliver a more balanced and unique gameplay experience than the traditional ruleset.
