In national companies 2023, Risk and insurance I had the opportunity to sit down with two of Kids’ Chance’s ambassadors: students who have directly benefited from the organization and are now helping to advance its mission by spreading the word.
This mission is to provide support to students who have been affected by the injury or death of a loved one in the workplace – emotional support as well as financial support.
Olivia North Mintonix lost her father in a workplace accident. After receiving support from Kids’ Chance during her studies, she now gives back: “Everywhere we can go, we support kids in one way or another, whether it’s community, outreach, getting that background, getting that. The idea More children and more families.
Ariana Jewell was also affected when an on-the-job injury left her mother – the sole breadwinner for a large family – unable to work, casting doubt on Ariana’s ability to pay for her education. “They supported me by letting me go to school without taking on any debt,” she said.

One important way Kids’ Chance helps participants through unimaginably difficult times is by connecting them to a larger community. Ariana found a connection with a Kids’ Chance representative whose check-in calls became almost like therapy sessions — “not just about finances, not just about school, but taking care of your well-being as a person.”
Olivia said she found this connection by “knowing that there are other kids like me.” “When you go through a traumatic experience like losing your father, it’s the end of the world. No one understands you, no one knows what you’ve been through. But with Kids’ Chance, it’s like, ‘No — there are so many other students in my state who are a lot like you.'”

Ariana and Olivia also had advice for anyone in the workers’ comp field who wants to support Kids’ Chance in its mission. One way someone can help is when they “come across a family that meets these criteria and has a child, our name gets out there, like ‘Hey, this is the opportunity for you in the future, so this way this is the only event in your life,'” Olivia said. “Life doesn’t Stop your goals.
“Be a donor. “Guard your time, nurture your money,” Ariana added. “Reach out and tell people about it. Keep pushing Kids’ Chance to everyone you know.
Both ambassadors were clear in their feelings about the organization. “Kids’ Chance is a really great organization, especially in a world where it seems like everyone is trying to take advantage of you, and everyone wants something from you in a negative way. Kids’ Chance is not that way at all,” Ariana said. “Everyone wants to see students win. Chance for children is the right way to go.” &
