81st Golden Globe Awards Ceremony
It wasn’t easy to find a host for 81street This year’s Golden Globes are the first edition of the awards ceremony run by Dick Clark Productions, which took over from the scandal-plagued Hollywood Foreign Press Association. A number of high-profile comedians reportedly turned down the gig, possibly due to a lack of preparation time given its proximity to the end of the actors’ strike and the HFPA’s past, including former Oscars host Chris Rock, Ally Wong, and the trio. Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, who co-host the “SmartLess” podcast. On December 21, stand-up comedian Joe Koy was announced as the show’s host at the last minute — just two weeks before the January 7 ceremony, which aired on CBS for the first time. The quick task was demonstrated during Coy’s monologue.
“The moment I signed the contract… I locked myself in a room and started binge-watching everything. While my family clinked champagne glasses and rang in the New Year, my family watched Oppenheimer“I loved it,” Coy said Oppenheimer. I just had one complaint: (It) needed another hour, because I felt like it needed more backstory. My New Year’s resolution for 2024 is to finish Oppenheimer In 2025. I love Oppenheimer – Especially the first season. When the camera cut to an unamused Christopher Nolan, Coy added: “This is so stupid…”
Things got worse from there, when he moved on to Barbenheimer’s other half.
“Oppenheimer And Barbie “They’re vying for movie box-office achievements,” Coy offered. “Oppenheimer “Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning, 724-page book about the Manhattan Project, ‘Barbie’ is based on a plastic doll with big breasts” — which drew a few hoots and some boos from the audience.
Coy continued: “The decisive moment in Barbie It’s when you go from perfect beauty to bad breath, cellulite, and flat feet — or what casting directors call a “personal actor.”
When the joke attracted groans and a few laughs, Coy blamed the joke’s writers.
“I wrote some, he wrote some,” he explained, adding: “I got the gig ten days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Shut up! You were kidding me right? I wrote some, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.”
There were some really funny jokes buried in Coy’s monologue, including an amusing swipe at 80-year-old Robert De Niro about how his partner could get pregnant at such an advanced age, but Coy had already lost the audience.
It’s hard to blame the man though because it was not only his first time hosting an awards show; very Little time to get his act together.
