Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with puzzles that once solved get you great rewards. However, many solutions are not straightforward and may require some trial and error to complete.

One of these is the Counting House’s vault, which must be opened by either rolling the natural 20 while picking the lock or completing a potentially difficult puzzle.

However, there is another, much easier way to open the door that any party should be able to replicate.

The Count’s House vault puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be solved using water and lightning

As Reddit user When_is_ shared, it’s possible to get into the Counting House’s vault without luck or puzzle-solving skills.

The trick is to simply use water and electrify it with lightning magic (in their case, the Shocking Grasp spell) to shorten the lock.

Considering how accessible water and lightning magic are thanks to items, magic arrows, and spell scrolls, you likely have what you need to make it happen already.

The poster says they decided to try this after reading a note found in the area. A cleaning staff memo warns employees that “no more water may be used to clean the floor” due to “unfortunate lightning incidents with wet pressure plates.”

Although it’s not a secret, rather an alternative puzzle solution that the developer has left hints for to reward those who read every note in the game, this strategy is certainly easier than finding the code and stomping on the panels in the correct order.
